Howard’s leadership and background well suited to continue driving disruption in the music industry with blockchain
Boston, MA -- Oct 26, 2021 -- Algorand today announced that George Howard, a digital music pioneer and longtime independent record label executive, currently serving as the CIO of Riptide Music Publishing and co-founder of ACME innovation, will serve as Arts Advisor to Algorand. The open-source Algorand protocol has recently been leveraged by several leaders in the music space, and Howard’s appointment aims to further the proliferation of blockchain technology across the music industry, bringing radical transparency and economic opportunity to artists.
Mr. Howard is the former president of Rykodisc, the world’s largest independent record label, and co-founder of TuneCore, the world’s largest independent digital music distributor. He is also the co-founder of Music Audience Exchange, which comprises a team of digital marketers, engineers, and music lovers, using technology to redefine the fundamental structure of brand-artist relationships.
Howard serves as a Distinguished Professor of Music Business/Management at Berklee College of Music and is the founder of GHS, a strategic consulting firm that advises a wide range of clients on how to integrate technology with strategy in order to increase brand awareness and revenue. His most recent book is “Everything In Its Right Place: How Blockchain Technology Will Lead To A More Transparent Music Industry.”
Algorand has become the blockchain of choice for disruptive new business models in the music and broader creative industries. Recent and upcoming launches include Opulous, which enables fans to directly invest in the music of their favorite artists like Lil Pump and KSHMR; Aorist, which will launch its next generation and climate-forward NFT marketplace this fall; NFT-as-a-Service platform Abris; consumer-centric and rewards-driven entertainment platform Xfinite; the soon-to-launch music licensing platform Dequency, and more.
“I could not be more honored and excited to work with the Algorand team,” said Howard. “I have spent nearly a decade in the blockchain space and historically been ‘chain agnostic,’ but the combination of Algorand’s leadership, robust science, and commitment to being carbon negative make it the obvious platform of choice for artists to create sustainable careers on their own terms.”
Algorand is building the technology to power the Future of Finance (FutureFi), the convergence of traditional and decentralized models into a unified system that is inclusive, frictionless, and secure. Founded by Turing Award-winning cryptographer Silvio Micali, Algorand developed a blockchain infrastructure that offers the interoperability and capacity to handle the volume of transactions needed for defi, financial institutions and governments to smoothly transition into FutureFi. The technology of choice for more than 700 global organizations, Algorand is enabling the simple creation of next generation financial products, protocols and exchange of value.
